Rhetoric in Society 2006 |
|
Maurice Charland is Professor at the Department of
Communication Studies at Concordia University, Canada. He is a rhetorical
theorist and critic, where rhetoric is the study of forms of civic discourse.
His areas of specialty are the relationship of rhetoric to political theory, the
philosophy of rhetoric, the rhetoric of constitutions, and Canadian public
address. He is primarily concerned with the way in which rhetoric constitutes
the basic categories for political community and practical judgment. At the
conference, Prof. Charland will speak about his current research, which is on
the relationship of constitutive rhetoric to the rhetoric of "impiety". Thus,
Prof. Charland will give his speech within the theme of Rhetoric in Political
Discourse.
